Master Bath Accomplishment

One of the most biggest alterations we've we've done to our house is completely overhaul master bathroom. We stripped that bad boy down to its bare bones. Luckily, most of the destruction and re-construction was done before I moved up (I had to finish my master's degree before moving up to the Panhandle). The hubby knew that I couldn't quite handle the magnitude of awfulness of this bathroom, and so we lived with it a  few days, then decided, like our master bedroom, it needed to be updated before we could feel "at peace" in our new home.

Below is the only "during" picture that I can find at the moment. We (ahem, Patrick, and my brother, and some of his workers) gutted the entire thing down to the studs. Patrick even moved the drain in the shower to the center, and rented a jackhammer and dug down to the dirt underneath the house to re-route the drain pipe. Most of the drywall, actually, all of the drywall, and the ceiling, was replaced. The tile was that old Florida house tile with the chicken wire laced into the concrete and I hear it was a huge pain to take out. (I am thankful, however, that it wasn't some sort of yellow, blue, green, or pink tile, as it's in our guest bathroom as well.) I was thankful to get rid of that too-low bathroom sink and I don't even remember what the floor looked like.

This bathroom to months and months to finish, mostly because we were using mostly free labor from my brother and spare time from Patrick's busy work schedule, it was our first major demolition project and involved changing all the plumbing and electric, putting up new drywall (which is pretty much top 3 suckiest things to do), and learning how to lay travertine tile, which is apparently way different than regular tile.

So, finally... and some minor changes a long the way.... and probably lots more to come...

My favorite part is the blue tile in the shower. I love the way the smaller tile on the floor looks too.

Yes, there is a hole where in the wall that I need to fix... I'll get to that one of these days. The picture on the shelf is our wedding day in blocks with my original engagement ring sitting on top taken by the wonderful Stay Forever Photography, of which Jessica now happens to be my future sister-in-law. Funny how things work out, and I could probably write a really long story about my wedding and engagement on another day. First anniversary is in just a few days! I somehow have to mange to get creative between now and Sunday to come up with a first anniversary "paper" gift. The little yellow mirror I found at a garage sale and spray painted it to match the yellow mirror hanging above Patrick's dresser.

Anyways, that's one of our biggest and most stressful projects so far written in just a few paragraphs. I love how it turned out, and is still one of Patrick's most prideful accomplishments in this house. We've had 5 men at one time in that bathroom showing it off. Quite entertaining, really.

Off to work... probably late.
