Progress Update

Update! We didn't get everything done. But we got an ishh-ton done. These projects turn into lots of little projects all rolled into one, so when I have say something like "paint all the crown molding and trim in the house," it really means "paint all the interior doors, fill all the holes in the trim from the nails, fix the places where the nailheads are still poking out, caulk trim to the ceiling and the wall, go spend $80 on paint, tape, and paintbrushes and still have to go back for more, fix the floor where it's coming up, install corner round on the floor, and then paint the trim." So that being said, here's a little update on what we did, and what we didn't.

  • Install the corner round to finish the floor. Not done. We ran out of time.
  • Paint all the crown molding and trim in the house.  Almost halfway done. We painted the upper trim in the guest bath, kitchen, living room, and dining room. Still have the bedrooms left to go, and all the floor baseboard due to the fact we haven't fixed the floor or put in corner round. I found that since I'm pretty bad at painting in straight lines, it was easiest for me to put up the blue painter's tape along all the edges, then just peel it off before the white paint dried.

  • Make ourselves a mantel! Have a Thanksgiving fire. Almost done!! Just have to grout the travertine tile. And I put candles in it instead of a fire.

  • Center the dining room light wires over the dining room table and install the cute Ikea light I bought 3 months ago. DONE! We almost fried the entire electrical in the house, but this is a big D-O-N-E. And it looks a-m-a-z-i-n-g.

  • Stucco the house. ha.
  • Do something with the front porch area - !DONE! Umm yeah. But I finally took pictures!
  • Almost forgot - decorate for Thanksgiving! Kind of did. I found some little pumpkins and squashes at a yardsale and put them in random places throughout the house. And bought flowers. Does this count?

While it feels great and I get a great sense of satisfaction by completing these projects, sometimes (all the time) I have to remind myself that it's about the journey, not the destination, and to appreciate what is accomplished as opposed to stressing about what is left to do on a list. I am constantly striving for more/perfection and am three steps ahead of myself at all times, not only in house projects but in everything. Part of what I was thankful this Thanksgiving was the realization that I was able to enjoy what was around me in the present, which helped me RELAX and enjoy the company of our crazy families. Until they left, then I had to clean. I wish I had gotten a picture. We had 9 dogs at our house at one time. Payback since we always bring our two lovely littles with us whenever we visit them.
